VendettaMark 2018 Released With Cross-Platform Support

I've recently stumbled upon a new cross-platform benchmark utility called "VendettaMark". From → their site:

VendettaMark™ 2018 is a cross-platform benchmark, based around the game assets and → custom engine of the long-running space MMORPG → Vendetta Online.

With VendettaMark, you can now compare the speed of your Android phone to your Windows laptop, or between any other set of hardware that is compatible with the benchmark.

The threaded renderer and rigorous benchmark makes every effort to replicate the actual types of gameplay loads incurred from running a heavy session of Vendetta Online, including intensive threaded physics simulations, sound, even I/O testing (an important component of texture and asset streaming).

VendettaMark™ then delivers the same unified suite of comparable benchmark tests across the following platforms and graphics APIs:

  • Windows (x86-64, DirectX 11)
  • MacOS X (x86-64, OpenGL)
  • Linux (x86-64, OpenGL)
  • Android (ARM64, OpenGL ES 3.0)
  • iOS (ARM64, OpenGL ES 3.0)

All versions utilize the same basic rendering architecture and identical shaders, implemented as closely as possible within the respective graphics APIs. All versions output graphically to an off-screen buffer that is re-scaled and flipped back to the main display for visual verification.

My own system scored 18051 points. Way to go!

Nine Years Old Mesa Bug Has Been Finally Closed

Marek Olšák has closed an one year old → bug in Mesa which has caused some weird GPU lockups on RadeonSI cards with a handful of games. The bug itself is probably about nine years old but hasn't affected any other driver besides RadeonSI. The needed patch adds one "if" to cso_cache.c.

I will try to add this patch to my Mesa builds in my spare time this week.

ILO - The Intel Driver For Gallium3D Might Be Removed From Mesa

It seems that the Intel ILO Gallium3D driver is going to be removed from Mesa. It has been started by LunarG Inc. and has not been maintained for ages. It's sad to see that Intel hasn't taken over ILO and kept developing their old-fashioned i965 driver which will not support any of Gallium3D's fancy state trackers like Gallium-Nine.

Mesa Updated To 13.0.2

I've uploaded Mesa 13.0.2 to deb.c-r-t.tk/. OpenGL 4.5 is already enabled where applicable, so there is no need for MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE and MESA_GLSL_VERSION_OVERRIDE.

Mesa Optimizations Are Coming

Marek Olšák's patches for optimizing shader variants and other stuff in RadeonSI have been accepted in → Mesa-git.

Pontostroy, Phoronix-member and founder of the gaming live distro → "Gears On Gallium" has already noticed a performance boost of 25% by using Marek's patches.

I'd love to see these patches in Mesa 13.0.2 but I don't think this is gonna happen.

Mesa 13.0 Has Been Released

Emil Velikov has just announced Mesa 13. It is the most impressive Mesa release so far, bringing OpenGL 4.5 to most drivers (albeit OpenGL 4.5 is still not being exposed due to missing CTS validation) and radv for AMDGPU-users.
